Power Steering Service

The power steering system on your car is essential for your safety. If the system fails, you don’t lose all control of the steering but it becomes incredibly hard to turn.

The power steering oil gets old just the same as the oil in your engine does. If the oil is not changed the dirt in the oil wears out the very sensitive components and it either starts to leak or just stops working. The costs of repairing a power steering system would normally start at about $400 and can easily go to more than $1000.

How we assess the condition of your Power Steering Fluid

A sample of the fluid is taken from the resevoir  and put on a white sample pallet.
The photo opposite  shows:
  • Top – a typical Auto transmission that needs servicing.
  • Middle a Transmission that is in desperate need of servicing.
  • Bottom – New Transmission oil

We test the fluid every time your car has a WOF or Service and report the result to you on the Preventative Maintenance Report sheet.

The cost of us servicing the power steering system is on our  Price board.

A Power Steering Flush Machine (Green Box Below) is needed to change it effectively.

What we do

power steering 1(copy) Initially a Power Steering flush solution is added to the system and with the car on a hoist the steering wheel is turned from full lock left to full lock right repeatedly so the solution can “wash” the dirt that is trapped in small pockets around the system, back into the old fluid. Then the old oil is removed while new oil is added at the same time.

Finally we add a power steering treatment solution which helps to keep the rubber seals soft and in good condition and also has a stop leak function should any small leaks start in the future.
